Busted! Crime Maps Announces the Inclusion of Interactive Maps from Houston, Texas

The Busted! Crime Maps tool gives residents the ability to view where crime is occurring in Houston

December 21, 2012

Busted! Grid, the leading innovator in the aggregation of crime information, announces the addition of Houston, Texas to its interactive crime-mapping tool Busted! Crime Maps. Over 420,000 incidents have been added from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office, Pearland Police Department, Humble Police Department, Beaumont Police Department, and Houston Police Department. By using Busted! Crime Maps, residents can evaluate neighborhoods and better understand local crime trends.

Busted! Crime Maps empowers residents to monitor crime and is a free resource that can be used to aid in understanding public safety issues in local communities. The database gives users the ability to filter by incident type or date range to identify areas with high incident rates related to thefts, drugs, sex crimes, and traffic. Incident categories also include traffic incidents, assistance requests, and reported crimes.

Houston saw a drop in crime from 2010 to 2011 based on data from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report. While the report sheds light on crime rates, it does not provide guidance about specific areas within the city where crimes occur. Busted! Crime Maps puts this information in perspective by showing users what kinds of incidents are being reported in their neighborhoods and how frequently.

According to quarter one statistics put out by the Houston Police Department earlier this year, the city experienced increases in both violent and property crimes. The increases are higher than what was reported during the same period in 2011 among the categories of burglary, murder, auto theft, and robbery. While these statistics shed light on crime trends, the crime rates throughout the rest of 2012 may not follow the increased pattern.

The Busted! Crime Maps comprehensive database contains over 30 million incidents with additions added daily. By using the tool, users can search and filter for incidents in 17 categories based on date and location. To learn more about crime trends in Houston or other cities visit BustedMaps.com.
